How to bid on properties

Are you saving for your first rent payment?
Whatever tenure you move into you will need to pay rent in advance, even if you are claiming benefits.

We are making improvements to Homes In The City.

Very soon, you will need an email address to apply and bid for homes. This change is one in a series of improvements we're making to enhance the customer experience and provide the best possible service to you.

If you haven't already got an email address, now is the time to set one up. It's really simple and there are loads of guides and useful tips online. Visit to learn more.

If you're still having trouble, the following might be able to help:

If you have a current housing application, you will need to register with a valid email address. Please note that this will not change your application.

The benefits of the improvements we're making include:

  • You will be able to update your contact details at any time
  • You will be able to save your housing application part-way through
  • You will be able to view your progress with the application
  • If any information is missing from your application, you will get a visual reminder, so you can supply it and stand the best possible chance of securing the home you want.

Please follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with the latest developments.

How to bid at present

Homes are advertised on this site each week from 6pm on Tuesdays until 10am on Mondays.

Look at the adverts and tell us which properties you like by bidding. You can make up to three bids each week.

Bidding is easy and there are a number of ways to do it:

The steps to placing a bid

  1. Login
  2. Search
  3. View the Details
  4. Add to basket
  5. Apply

For full instructions, visit our step by step guide to bidding.

The time of your bid makes no difference when you bid as long as you bid bewteen Tuesday 6pm and Monday 10am.

If you change your mind while the advert is live, you can add or delete bids. You just need to log on to your account to update your bids.

Please remember that if you don't bid you won't be rehoused and if you haven't placed a bid in six months your application could be deferred.

If you are unable to bid independantly and have no one that can support you with this process, please contact us using our Online Contact Form

If you have never held a tenancy before or if you've had problems during a previous tenancy, you will not be able to bid until you've been to one of our pre-tenancy workshops.
